Union Station

Union Station is in the heart of downtown Kansas City and holds many traditions. Whether it's walking through a museum, having a bite to eat, going to a planetarium, or even Science City, Union Station has you covered.

Built in 1914, Union Station opened with 850,000 square which originally held 900 rooms. At this time, Union Station worked as a train station in which hundreds of thousands of passengers passed through each year. During WWII, an estimated one million travelers (many soldiers) passed through. Union Station in Kansas City included restaurants, a cigar store, a barber shop, and the nation's largest Railway Express Building. This building holds many stories of farewells and reunions in the walls of day-to-day activity.

Union Station is now reserved and is now a desired destination for the people of Kansas City, and all over the world. The most iconic feature is Grand Hall's 95-foot ceiling, three 3,500-pound chandeliers.

Just like 100 years ago, you can still catch the train at Union Station's Amtrak Stop! You can also find a permanent rail exhibit called the KC Rail Experience. Their are many exhibit spaces for traveling exhibits produced by the Smithsonian, National Geographic, and other international organizations. Their is also a Planetarium and interactive science center called Science City.

I have experienced a traveling exhibit (Princess Diana), the Planetarium, and Science City. I can promise you, any one of these events will not disappoint you.

Science City is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm. Also Sunday's from noon- 5 pm. The cost is $13.25 for everyone. Science City is a great educational trip for kids and even a fascinating place to see science experiments and other amazing activities.

The Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium combine interactive astronomy education with spectacular public shows and night sky viewing opportunities. The cost is $7 for everyone. The schedule is always posted on https://www.unionstation.org/sciencecity/planetarium if you are wanting to attend!
